Butterflies

Thank you again to whoever donated the butterfly certificate.  The children have watched the miracle life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly for several weeks now.

As we released them this morning on the play scape I asked the children what they had enjoyed most.

*  Their long tongue.

*  When they turned to cocoons & came out butterflies.

*  They knew how to fly around the playground.

*  My Cinderella was so beautiful.

*  When the butterflies came out of the cocoon they were so quiet.

*  All five ate their apple & orange snack.

*  Taking care of them every day.

*  I hope they are careful flying across the busy street.

To love and release isn't always easy.
May all my children fly high like a butterfly!

Book Fair Review

Thank you, TMA Community, for your wonderful support of our "All-Star Sports" Book Fair. At the fair, students and adults focused on reading, stocked up on books for the summer, and had fun. Our fair was a huge success—you helped us hit a home run! The profits from the fair will ensure our students will discover many intriguing new titles on the library shelves in the fall.

Perhaps you noticed or donated to the "All for Books" collection. Because of your generosity, we were able to purchase eight beautiful new books for the young children of our Montessori classroom at the Center for the Home-less:

African Animal Alphabet; Diggers; Dolphins; Fish Had A Wish; Perfect Square; Going to the Rainforest; Reptiles and Amphibians; and Swirl by Swirl: Spi-rals in Nature.

Happy summer reading to all!

Spring has arrived!

We have planted some spinach, beans, and zucchini in starter pots.   Soon we will transplant them into our community garden, wait for them to grow, and hopefully enjoy them later in the year.

Our Mother’s Day Tea went well.  Mom’s enjoyed strawberry shortcake, a short work time, a trip to the book fair and some outdoor playtime.

In addition to our play equipment;  we have a wagon for children to pull one another, a wheelbarrow for working in our outdoor environment, a large tricycle for children to ride, balls to kick and throw, and sand toys for the sandbox.

YAHOO for warm weather!

International Festival

The children have diligently been working towards a fun and successful performance for our International Festival on Friday, May 17th starting at 9AM.

The kids will be showcasing music from Hawaii, Japan, India, Croatia, Ireland, France, Kenya and a Native America tribe. I wanted to give a challenge to the Junior High students who do not participate in band by having them accompany every song on either maracas, drums, xylophones or a gong. The other children in EC, LE and UE have also learned simple steps or movements to interpret specific songs being executed.

We are asking the children, parents and visitors to please represent any culture of your choice by wearing certain clothing items to the festival. This could be as simple as a shirt with a flag on it or colors representing a certain nation. We also love to see full-fledge costumes as well. Everyone at TMA is looking forward to this educational, fun and rewarding festival, and we cannot wait to see you there!
