The Life of Maria Montessori--in a nutshell

At the end of February, room 3 celebrated Montessori Education Week by studying the time line of Maria Montessori's life.  Here are some of the highlights:


August 31, 1870: Maria Montessori was born in Chiaravalle, Italy.

 

1875: The Montessori family moves to Rome and she starts school.

1882: Maria continues her schooling at a Technical School for boys against her father's wishes.

1896: Against all odds she graduates from medical school, becoming Italy's first woman doctor.  She begins to work with special needs children and developes her observational skills.


January 6, 1907: She opens the doors of the first Casa dei Bambini (Children's House) in a poor neighborhood of Rome.  For more than 45 years Dr. Montessori travels the world teaching children and training teachers to help children reach their potential.
  





May 6, 1952: Mari Montessori dies at the age of 83 in Amsterdam.
