Room 2 Update
Welcome back from spring break...or was it winter break? The
children are getting back into our routine again, what a busy work day!
New art materials, matching socks, and the trinomial cube are just a few
new works out.
Also, before our break, we discovered that
a mama duck and her nest outside our classroom
window, near our library/peace corner. She had eggs! We were
looking forward to seeing some ducklings! We've noticed that sometimes the mama wanders away, covering her eggs--but she always comes back to keep them safe.
We've had children reading stories to the mother duck through the window.

Firefighters Visit
Thank you to three Penn firefighters for visiting us at Montessori
Academy this week! We saw a short video about the
life of a firefighter, played a safety game "Toy or Tool", which
included a basketball, as well as matches (toys are for kids, tools are for
adults) and heard what a fire alarm sounds like.
The firefighters explained to the children
that if there is a fire--get out! It’s part of their job to save pets and
make sure the house is empty of humans and pets alike.
Mr. Franco (aka Firefighter Richard)
showed us all how a firefighter dresses for an emergency, and why. He
then crawled on the floor to reassure the children that firefighters are not
scary, in their protective gear.
At the end of the presentation, we all
headed outside to see and go in the firetruck. Even with the excitement
of them leaving on a call, all the children were able to enjoy a trip through
the truck.

Worms
On Monday, March 14, room 2 had a chance to go outside. Not to play or run, but rather to move worms! Yes, the children picked up worms and carried them off the pavement, onto the grass or in a puddle. A few were squeamish, but once they saw that the worms were harmless, they began to giggle as well as squeal.

Dressing for Playtime Success
The policy for the Early Childhood is that the children go out to play most days as long
as it’s 15 degrees or above (this includes the wind chill factor). The children need
appropriate attire to be able to be fully engaged in outdoor time. At Montessori, we
believe in nurturing the whole child—through outdoor play as well as indoor work time.
Outside time includes: sledding, playing in the snow, playing in the field and taking walks
around the property.
Winter attire include: snow pants, coat, mittens/gloves, hat and snow boots.
Many children have a spare set to leave at school and simply wear the boots and
coats back and forth.
Please make sure that you child brings the required clothing daily or simply has a
set that remains at school—this will ensure that your child can full participate in all
aspects of their time at school.
